Where the name Ashram Weekends came from:
Traditionally, an ashram is a spiritual residence and a centre for cultural activity such as yoga, music study or religious instruction. In India, an ashram would typically, but not always, be located far from human habitation, in forests or mountains, amidst refreshing natural surroundings conducive to spiritual instruction and meditation.
Three years ago a group of three friends – Jessie Teggin, Simon Heale and Rebecca Brewin, had the idea that a similar communal experience could be created close to London, offering people the opportunity to explore mindfulness in the midst of their everyday life. What has emerged is inspired by tradition, whilst fuelled by contemporary practices, art and culture.
